Blowin' in the Wind wurde das Lied einer ganzen Generation und Bob Dylan zur Symbolfigur einer Protestbewegung, die sich gegen Krieg und Unterdrückung auflehnte. Als Komponist und Interpret gilt er nach den Beatles und Rolling Stones als einflussreichste Persönlichkeit der Rockmusik, gleichermaßen bedeutend für die Entwicklung des Protestsongs in der ersten Hälfte der 1960er Jahre wie für den Folk- und Country-Song seit 1964/65.

Viele seiner lyrisch anspruchsvollen und engagierten Songs wurden Klassiker, so z.B. It's all over now Baby Blue, The mighty Quinn, Mr. Tambourine Man, Like a Rolling Stone. Bob Dylan wurde am   24. Mai   1941 in Duluth/Minnesota/USA geboren.
